Thymic lesions account for approximately 2-3% of all pediatric mediastinal tumors

چکیده
pediatric mediastinal tumors and include thymic cysts, hyperplasia, carcinoma, thymoma and thymolipoma (1). Thymomas are rare tumors of the thymic epithelium with a broad spectrum of morphological and clinical features; they comprise about 1% of mediastinal tumors. Familial occurrence of these tumors has been rarely reported (2-4). We report an unusual familial occurrence of three cases of thymoma in two sisters and their father.

Mediastinal lesions across the age spectrum: a clinicopathological comparison between pediatric and adult patients
The objective of this study was to identify the differences in histopathological distribution and clinical features of mediastinal lesions (MLs) across the age spectrum in Chinese series of patients and to compare with the available literature. A total of 409 cases of MLs, including 137 pediatric and 272 adult patients from a single institution, was reviewed and categorized into groups accordin...
متن کاملA Huge Lymphangioma Mimicking Pleural Effusion with Extension to Both Chest Cavities: A Case Report and Review of Literature
Mediastinal lymphangioma is primarily a benign lesion and the majority of the cases are found incidentally. These lesions account for approximately 1% of all mediastinal tumors. Here we present a giant mediastinal cystic mass in a 35-year-old female who was presented with severe respiratory distress. On the plain chest radiography and CT scan, a massive left pleural effusion with large paraster...
متن کاملAssessment of mediastinal tumors using SUVmax and volumetric parameters on FDG PET/CT
Objective(s): This study aimed to evaluate the role of pretreatment SUVmax and volumetric FDG positron emission tomography (PET) parameters in the differentiation between benign and malignant mediastinal tumors. In addition, we investigated whether pretreatment SUVmax and volumetric FDG-PET parameters could distinguish thymomas from thymic carcinomas, and low-risk from high-risk thymomas.Method...
متن کاملDiffusion Weighted Imaging Can Distinguish Benign from Malignant Mediastinal Tumors and Mass Lesions: Comparison with Positron Emission Tomography.
BACKGROUND Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWI) makes it possible to detect malignant tumors based on the diffusion of water molecules. It is uncertain whether DWI is more useful than positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) for distinguishing benign from malignant mediastinal tumors and mass lesions. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixteen malignant mediastinal tumors (...
متن کاملProposal for a new mediastinal compartment classification of transverse plane images according to the Japanese Association for Research on the Thymus (JART) General Rules for the Study of Mediastinal Tumors
There is no existing worldwide published method for mediastinum compartment classification based on transverse section images for the differential diagnosis of mediastinal tumors. Herein, we describe a new method for anatomic mediastinal compartment classification using transverse section computed tomography (CT) images and the use of this method to classify mediastinal lesions, and thus evalua...
